FORT COLLINS, Colo. — A Fort Collins EMT whose son was hospitalized last month, and whose family’s struggle rallied first-responders across Northern Colorado, was arrested Thursday and charged with felony child abuse.

Jason Schneider, 29, first called 911 about 12:44 p.m. Feb. 18 to report that his 4-month-old child was choking. The man told police he was feeding his son formula when the child began choking and lost consciousness, Fort Collins police announced Friday afternoon.

Schneider said he did CPR and back blows on the boy to try to revive him before EMS arrived. First responders treated and transported the boy to Poudre Valley Hospital in Fort Collins. He was then flown to Children’s Hospital in Denver with life-threatening injuries.
