Florida honors emergency responders with appreciation week

Officials said anyone in public service should be honored

BAY COUNTY, Fla. — During the first week of January, Florida is honoring first responders with an appreciation week.

Gov. Rick Scott said it is important to recognize not only police, but also EMS and fire emergency responders, reported WJHG.

This is the second year in a row the state has held the appreciation week.

“Somebody’s going to be there that can help save a life and we don’t care what they’re wearing,” Bay County EMS Division Chief Corky Young said. “We don’t care what they’re carrying. Somebody gets there and it’s just one of the best systems I’ve seen.”

Corky added that anybody wearing a uniform working in public service should be commended.
