AKRON, Ohio — Akron police are investigating the suspected overdose of a 6-month-old boy.

Police and paramedics went to a home in the 700 block of Boulevard Street about 4 p.m. Friday and found the boy unresponsive with shallow breathing. He was taken to a local hospital where they took steps to revive him.

“I think the child is going to be okay,” said Lt. Rick Edwards, a spokesman for the Akron Police Department.

Several adults live in the home and some have a known drug history, Edwards said.

Both the 6-month-old and a 1-year-old male have been placed in the care of the Summit County Children Services Board.

No charges have been filed. Police are waiting for toxicology results, which normally take several months.

Akron has had a half dozen overdoses this year involving children under 6, which is up significantly from past years, Edwards said.
