BRANTFORD, Ontario — A paramedic calmed down a man who pulled a hammer from a bag and began swinging it around the ER.
The medic put a chair between himself and the 26-year-old, and talked to him until police arrived. Witnesses say at one point the man held the hammer in the air over the medic’s head, and was eventually convinced to drop it.
“It was a scary situation and a lot of people appreciated the paramedic’s actions,” Brantford police spokeswoman Const. Natalie Laing told the Brantford Expositor.
The man was arrested and charged with assault with a weapon, mischief under $5,000, causing a disturbance and breach of probation.
