Ky. intruder pretending to be medic arrested

An elderly man woke to find the burglar standing over him; he claimed he was a medic sent to check on his wellbeing

PADUCAH, Ky. — An intruder who pretended to be a paramedic was later arrested when police found him riding his bike while intoxicated.

Police were sent at 1:21 a.m. to the home of a 77-year-old man who woke up to find the man standing over him, surfky.com reports. He claimed to be a paramedic sent to check on his welfare, but when the elderly man said he wasn’t alone, the intruder fled out the back door, taking a bottle of blood pressure medication as he left.

He was described as a white male wearing a blue jacket, with a bald spot in his beard and a tattoo on his left hand. Officers found someone meeting that description riding a bicycle the wrong way down a street.

They arrested Martin C. Gossett, 31, after they found him carrying items reported missing, including a Craftsman drill, loose change and the wallet of the other person living in the home.

Gossett was charged with alcohol intoxication, second-degree burglary and third-degree burglary.
