NY EMS, police team up to equip cruisers with medical equipment

Delmar Bethlehem EMS helped outfit Bethlehem Police Department cruisers with medical kits filled with emergency medical supplies

BETHLEHEM, N.Y. — An EMS agency helped a police department become better prepared for emergencies by equipping their cruisers with medical supplies.

News10 reported that Delmar Bethlehem EMS and the Bethlehem Police Department teamed up to equip police cruisers with patrol trauma response kits that could help police treat victims in situations such as vehicle crashes or mass casualty incidents.

Officials said the kits, which are part of the nationwide “Stop the Bleed” campaign, are a precaution in case police need to tend to a patient before EMS providers arrive on the scene.

Spectrum News reported that the kits are now inside each of the department’s 25 squad cars and cost a total of $2,000 to $3,000.

“Our partnership with the Bethlehem Police Department is very important to the chain of survival for people who are very ill or injured,” Delmar-Bethlehem EMS Director Steven Kroll said. “Certainly, if the unforeseen terrible tragedy happens here, having these supplies will be helpful to us.”
