The 14-year-old boy was hospitalized and his condition wasn’t immediately known

NEW YORK — Police say a non-verbal autistic teenager reported missing from his school in Brooklyn has been rescued by officers who found him naked in the water near Coney Island.

Police say the 14-year-old boy was found Saturday afternoon after being reported missing from his school earlier in the day.

Officers who were searching for him found the teen in the water at a Coney Island beach.

Police say the boy was hospitalized Saturday night. His condition wasn’t immediately known.

In 2013, 14-year-old Avonte Oquendo, who was also autistic, ran off from his school in Queens and was found dead in a river months later. A law passed after his death requiring schools to install audible door alarms.

The city’s Department of Education didn’t respond to a request for comment Saturday night.
