Paramedics responded to reports of an unconscious intoxicated female vomiting in a dorm

BELCHERTOWN, Mass. — A college student pleaded not guilty Monday to charges of assaulting a paramedic.

University of Massachusetts Amherst student Jordan E. Ortiz, 20, faces charges of assault and battery on an ambulance personnel, interfering with a firefighter, resisting arrest, malicious destruction of property and disorderly conduct, reported the Daily Hampshire Gazette.

Officials said Amherst Fire Department paramedics responded to reports of an unconscious intoxicated female vomiting in a dorm. Officers entered the dorm when they heard yelling and found Ortiz pushing a paramedic. During the struggle, Ortiz tore a paramedic’s vest.

According to court documents, Ortiz was escorted out of the dorm by officers and refused arrest while yelling obscenities.

Ortiz’s next court date is Dec. 12.
