NEW YORK — The man accused of killing an FDNY EMT by running her over with her own ambulance plans to file a psychiatric defense, according to his attorney.

NY Post reported that Jose Gonzalez, who is charged with killing EMT Yadira Arroyo, stood by his attorney Alice Fontier as she notified the court that she planned to file a psychiatric notice in his defense.

Arroyo’s friends and family packed the gallery as the announcement was made and voiced their anger.

“He knows what he did,” Paramedic Danielle Connell said. “He didn’t care. He needs to go away behind bars and never come out.”

Gonzalez confessed to “smoking two blunts” laced with PCP and taking an anti-psychotic drug before allegedly stealing Arroyo’s ambulance and running her over, according to court documents.

The judge has not decided if he will let Gonzalez proceed with the psych defense because the 45-day window to file the paperwork was missed. If the psych defense is allowed, Gonzalez could be found not guilty by reason of insanity.
