BLOOMFIELD, N.J. — An EMT was arrested for stealing checks from a patient in an ambulance and forging her name to deposit them.
NJ.com reported that EMT Eric Fernandez stole the checks in December while the woman was being transported to the hospital and then deposited them with the help of Karian Persaud, whom he lives with, according to police.
“The resident believed that the checks were stolen while she was being transported home from the hospital via private ambulance service,” Hillsdale Police Chief Robert Francaviglia said.
Francaviglia said that Fernandez “completed and signed the checks, pretending to be the resident.”
Fernandez faces charges of third-degree forgery and third-degree uttering a forged document and theft.
