CHARLESTON, W.Va. — A W. Va. Stat Ambulance paramedic was shot in the hand while on duty Tuesday night.
Witnesses say a motorist flagged down Ricky Carey, 50, in his ambulance around 11:30 p.m. When Carey walked up to the car, a gun was pointed at him, according to WSAZ.
The Operations Manager with Stat Ambulance, Scott Thacker, told WSAZ as Carey tried to push the gun away, he was shot in the hand.
Carey is being transferred to a hospital in Huntington where he will undergo surgery. He is reportedly in stable condition.
Thacker says Williamson City Police and WV State Police are investigating and searching for the shooter.
