FISH LAKE, Utah — The snowmobiler who died Sunday afternoon in an avalanche near Fish Lake has been identified as Brady Davis, 34, of Richfield.
Sevier County Sheriff’s Office said Davis was buried in the Seven Mile area of Fish Lake about 5 p.m. Sunday. Search and rescue were called just before 6 p.m. to assist.
Davis was reported to be riding snowmobiles with a group. Two other people were in the slide path but were able to get out and a fourth person was able to avoid the avalanche, the sheriff’s office said.
Davis was located by using beacons but was already dead when reached by searchers, authorities said.
Search and rescue crews from Sevier, Piute and Wayne counties, along with local volunteers, assisted in the recovery.
The Utah Avalanche Center and U.S. Forest Service officials will be doing testing on avalanche conditions in the area.
In other mountainous areas of the state, the center has listed the risk of avalanche as “considerable,” which is in the middle of a five-point scale ranging from “low” to “extreme.”
