The westbound lanes of U.S. Highway 192 in Celebration were closed for about two hours today after a 15-year-old jumped out of a moving ambulance and suffered a head injury, officials said.
The girl, who is pregnant, was being transported to an Osceola hospital for unknown medical reasons, said Niki Whisler, spokeswoman for Osceola County Fire and Rescue.
“She is a chronic runaway from [Department of Children and Families],” she said. She was handcuffed inside the ambulance because there was a warrant for her arrest. “She fought the medic and jumped out the back.”
She hit her head on the pavement and was taken by helicopter to Orlando Regional Medical Center, Whisler said.
The road was closed from Celebration Parkway Boulevard to Holiday Trail and reopened at about 4 p.m.
