PITTSBURGH — The union that represents 162 paramedics in Pittsburgh’s Emergency Medical Services Bureau is set to vote today on whether to authorize a strike that could result in a Jan. 1 walkout.
Months of negotiations between the city and the union on a new contract for the paramedics apparently remained stalled Monday. The union’s five-year contract expires at the end of this year.
The city’s contract proposal would cut paramedics’ benefits and allow a private entity to take over ambulance service without using union members, the union has said.
