Paramedics questioned in homeless man’s death

VANCOUVER, British Columbia, Canada — Vancouver paramedics were faced with tough questions Monday after a homeless man died outside in the snow a few hours after they checked on him Saturday night.

The victim was sitting in his wheelchair on Hastings Street with his friend “Pops.” The men chose sleeping on the street over checking into a shelter because they weren’t able to abide by the shelter’s rules, Pops told CTV News. Once he realized his friend was unwell, around 11 p.m., Pops called for help.

“We phoned the ambulance to get them and come and help us… and they came, but they left him,” Pops said, adding that the man’s name was Francis. “We told them that there was something wrong with him, so they came and then they left him.”
