LITTLE ROCK — Two central Arkansas hospitals, a wireless provider and an ambulance company are collaborating on a system that will reduce the time it takes for heart attack patients in the metro area to get treatment.
If a trial period shows expected results, the system eventually could go statewide.
Using Verizon Wireless’ network and equipment, heart monitor data from a Metropolitan Emergency Medical Services ambulance can be transmitted to mobile devices carried by cardiologists so treatment decisions and preparations can be made more quickly and so personnel are ready sooner.
“Saving in time means saving in muscle,” said Ibrahim Fahdi, assistant director of internal medicine in the cardiovascular division at the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences. ...
