JACKSONVILLE, N.C. — When a 911 call comes in, a blue splotch with a “P” on it or a red splotch with an “F” on it appears on a map displayed on a 42-inch plasma TV.
The Jacksonville dispatcher can easily see where an emergency vehicle - whether it be the Police Department or the Fire Department - needs to be sent. In a few months, all Jacksonville police vehicles will be equipped with Global Positioning Satellite chips so the dispatcher also will be able to see the police officer that can get to the call the quickest.
