VIERA, Fla. — Brevard County used an unconstitutional method of collecting an emergency medical service tax, a circuit judge ruled Thursday.
The city of Palm Bay is suing the county, property appraiser and tax collector, contending that the county should return the millions it has collected since implementing countywide emergency medical service in 1999.
The county, which collects millions of dollars a year to provide ambulance services to more than 500,000 residents, could be forced to return up to $50 million it has collected since 2002. ...
