The death of an East Texas Medical Center emergency medical services supervisor has left local first responders grieving for one of their own after a car wreck Wednesday night.
“It’s one of those situations to where if they hurt, it filters down to the rest of us,” Waco firefighter Nicholas Nors said. That’s how it is with us. If one of our brothers is hurting — whether it’s a firefighter, police, EMS, it doesn’t matter — we feel it, too.”
Joe Alvarez Jr., 32, of Robinson, died Wednesday night when his emergency vehicle, a 2003 Ford Econoline van, crashed into the back of a street sweeper in Waco. The accident happened about 11:30 p.m. in the northbound lane of West Loop 340 on the 400 block, police said. ...
