PWLLHELI, Wales — A Welsh medic was killed Thursday afternoon in a vehicle collision, leaving three others seriously injured.
The Welsh Ambulance Services NHS Trust released a statement reporting that a patient care service vehicle and an urgent care service vehicle collided on a highway in Pwllheli.
The driver of the patient care service vehicle was pronounced dead at the scene. There was no one else in the vehicle at the time of the collision.
Three emergency ambulances, two rapid response cars and two air ambulances responded to the scene.
“As an ambulance service we deal with road traffic accidents on a daily basis. These are always difficult to deal with, but even more so when they involve our colleagues,” Richard Lee, the Welsh Ambulance Services Director of Operations said.
The three occupants in the urgent care vehicle were transported to a medical facility.
“Our thoughts this evening are with everyone affected by this incident, but particularly with the family of the colleague we have lost,” Lee said.
The Trust’s Wellbeing Support team has offered its services to colleagues affected by the tragedy.
“We are all absolutely devastated to hear about this tragic accident, and our thoughts are with everyone involved,” Sonia Thompson, the Trust’s Head of Operations, said.
The Trust has not released any further information.
