PHILADELPHIA — A responder was pushed from a moving ambulance after carjackers stole it while he worked in the back, according to officials.

NBC Philadelphia reported that the unidentified responder was working in the back of the running ambulance when two suspects stole it, according to the Philadelphia Police Department.

“When he realized the ambulance was moving he went into the driver compartment and saw two people he didn’t know who were actually stealing the ambulance,” Philadelphia Police Chief Inspector Scott Small said.

The responder said he fought with the carjacker who was in the passenger seat while the ambulance drove in a one mile loop before he was pushed out of the ambulance.

Small said the responder contacted police, as well as his headquarters, so that the ambulance could be tracked by GPS.

Police located the ambulance and found one suspect inside who appeared highly intoxicated, but the passenger carjacker who had fought with the responder had exited the vehicle at some point.
