CLARKSVILLE, Ind. — A man who allegedly stole an ambulance and led police on a chase is set to undergo a mental health evaluation.

WAVE3 reported that Joseph Prest was ordered to be admitted back into the Clark Memorial Mental Health facility after allegedly stealing an ambulance from the same location and leading police on a low-speed chase across county lines.

According to Prest’s attorney, Larry Wilder, he is a veteran suffering from PTSD.

“We’re just trying to figure out how to help him,” Wilder said. “Get him back into a position where his thoughts are consistent and where his thought process doesn’t result in you getting into an ambulance and driving away.”

Clark County prosecutor Jeremy Mull said he will hold off on moving forward with the case until the mental evaluation is completed.
