ROANOKE, Va. — A patient who attacked an EMT in the back of an ambulance will serve six months in jail.
Carolos Almandor Harris, 39, had been drinking and was being transported for what appeared to be seizures on Aug. 30, 2014, Roanoke.com reports.
He was on a stretcher in the ambulance when his cell phone rang. Two EMS providers treating him asked him not to answer it; he became enraged and began fighting until the vehicle stopped at an intersection. He then got out and began fighting with the driver.
He was taken into custody without reports of serious injuries. He pleaded no contest to one count of assault and battery against an emergency worker. Prosecutors dismissed two additional accounts of assault; Harris will carry 18 months in suspended time and will be on probation for one year after his release.
