HARRISBURG, Pa. — A 21-year-old man was killed after being hit by an ambulance returning from an emergency call.
Tommy Emanuel, a resident of Susquehanna Township, died following the 4 a.m. crash, WHTM reports.
The cause of the crash is under investigation with the help of an accident reconstruction team, said Brad DeLancey, chief of Susquehanna Township EMS.
“This is definitely a tragedy, the likes of which Susquehanna Township EMS has never seen before,” DeLancey said in a statement. “We want to extend our deepest sympathies to the family.”
“This has definitely shaken up all the EMS providers. We are there to help people and to help save lives. Unfortunately that’s what makes this tragedy even worse.”
Assistant Chief Matthew Baily also expressed his condolences to the family.
“We at Susquehanna Township EMS would like to extend our deepest sympathy to the family of the victim,” he said in the statement. “Our thoughts and prayers go out to everyone involved in this tragic incident.”
