Man critically hurt after sideswiping NJ ambulance

An EMS provider and patient were in the ambulance at the time but were uninjured

FRANKLIN, N.J. — A New Jersey man was critically injured after his car sideswiped an ambulance and then collided head-on with another vehicle.

NJ.com reported Robert Held, 76, was the driver of the car that struck the ambulance and second vehicle. The ambulance was carrying a patient with non-life threatening injuries at the time of the collision. The EMS provider and patient were not injured in the crash.

According to an initial investigation, Held was travelling southbound when he crossed the center line and sideswiped the ambulance. After striking the ambulance, Held continued driving south in the northbound lane and collided head-on with the second car.

Held was transported to a hospital with critical injuries. The driver of the second car was also taken to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries.
