NEW GLOUCESTER, Maine — An ambulance carrying a patient to the hospital slid into a snowy ditch on Wednesday night.

The New Gloucester ambulance had pulled to the side of the road to stop when the snow-covered ground underneath the rig collapsed, causing the rig to fall into a ditch, according to the Cumberland County Sheriff’s Office.

The patient was not injured in the incident and was transferred to a Town of Gray ambulance to be transported to the hospital. The two EMS providers who were in the ambulance were also brought to the hospital as a precaution but did not report any serious injuries.

The ambulance did not sustain significant damage, was removed from the ditch and was driven away from the scene.

Officials said speed was not a factor in the crash.
