UNION TOWNSHIP, Ind. — A 23-year-old who was driving an ambulance involved in a collision had a suspended license due to a missed court appearance for a minor infraction.
Twelve students, two medics and a patient were injured when the driver failed to yield the right of way to a school bus, nwi.com reports.
Superior Ambulance Service Vice President Mary Franco said the driver’s license was suspended on March 19 because he didn’t appear in court for a citation for not updating the address on his driver’s license. When he was hired five months ago he had a clean driving record, and he didn’t notify his supervisors about the suspension.
“The employee definitely should have notified us about that,” Franco said. “We want to work with our employees. There are things that we could do to help his situation.”
Of the 12 students injured, six were hospitalized and six where treated and released. The two EMS providers and patient were also treated and released.
