LEVITTOWN, Pa. — A Pennsylvania rescue squad ambulance was struck head-on by an SUV Sunday, causing minor injuries to crewmembers.

The Levittown-Fairless Hills Rescue Squad rig was en route back to the station when it was struck by an SUV traveling the wrong way, according to Levittown Fire Company No. 2, which responded to the crash.

Firefighters said both vehicles were severely damaged in the collision but no serious injuries were reported. Levittown-Fairless Hills Rescue Squad Chief Joel Rutkowski credited the crewmember who was driving for their reaction in the crash, according to Levittown Now.

“One thing that is important to note is is our driver had responded differently the other car would have hit at a more lateral angle possibly causing major injury to the crew members,” Rutkowski told Levittown Now.

The Bristol Township Police Department is investigating the crash.
