NASSAU COUNTY, N.Y. — A Long Island motorist was hospitalized in critical condition after his SUV collided with a Nassau County police ambulance on an emergency call and another vehicle, police said
The 33-year-old Mercedes Benz SUV driver was traveling west on Old Country Road and collided with the ambulance while trying to make a left turn onto Zeckendorf Blvd. in Carle Place around 1:50 p.m. Friday.
A Land Rover stopped on Zeckendorf Blvd. was also struck, police said.
The ambulance was traveling east on Old Country Road and had on its emergency lights and sirens, authorities said.
The emergency medic was taken to a nearby hospital with non-life threatening injuries. The SUV driver was also taken to a nearby hospital where he remained in critical condition Saturday, police said.
The 56-year-old woman driving the Land Rover was not injured.
