AURORA, Ill. — A 3-year-old girl suffering an asthma attack died after her mother crashed Monday as they traveled to an Aurora hospital, police said.
Kayla Bell, 3, of the 1500 block of Victoria Park Circle in Aurora, was pronounced dead shortly after arriving at Rush Copley Medical Center in Aurora, police said.
An autopsy Tuesday found Kayla died due to a medical issue and not from injuries suffered in the crash, police said.
The crash happened around 5:50 p.m. as Kayla was being driven to Rush Copley when her mother, 30, was driving south on Waterford Drive in a 2002 Subaru Outback. The mother lost control of her vehicle when she apparently tried to pass a 2003 Jeep Liberty after she saw a northbound vehicle heading in her direction and swerved back into the southbound lanes where she sideswiped the Jeep, officials said.
Her mother was treated for head injuries at Rush Copley. No one else was injured.
