SEBRING, Ohio ― A man was arrested after his malfunctioning cellphone dialed 911 numerous times.
The Alliance Review reported that Nathan Hawkins was arrested and charged with disrupting public service after dispatchers received 20 emergency calls from his cellphone since January.
Hawkins said his phone was in his pocket and was malfunctioning, but the arrest report said Hawkins had been warned that if his phone called 911 for no reason again he would be arrested.
The report said the responding officers told Hawkins there were “plenty of things he could have done to prevent his phone from dialing 911 over the past eight months, however, he has chosen to do nothing.”
A warrant was issued for Hawkins’ arrest on the grounds that it was his responsibility to fix the phone, and he did not.
