No one was injured and witnesses guided police officers to the man who was earlier described as acting erratically in the street before throwing the brick.
The man was jailed on charges of malicious mischief and assault.
According to a fire department spokesperson, the ambulance was placed out of service and another medic unit responded to the original call.
