UK cop doubles up as paramedic

BURNHAM, UK — Dealing with injured and seriously ill children is still the hardest part of the job for an experienced cop.

Strange you may think as the police do not always tend to casualties but for Sgt Andy Ford, it’s all in a days work and very much a part of his job.

As well as being in charge of the Essex Police Marine Unit, based in Station Road, Burnham, Sgt Ford is a state registered paramedic and operational manager for the police advanced medical programme.

Within Essex Police there are five levels of police medic, ranging from a divisional officer who gets basic life support and first aid training to the police advanced medic, of which there are only 12 across the force, and Sgt Ford is one of them.
