HORRY COUNTY, S.C. — A woman who was arrested for stealing an ambulance claimed she did so because she needed help.
Myrtle Beach Online reported that a Horry County Fire and Rescue ambulance and fire truck had responded to a medical call, and responders noticed the ambulance had been stolen as the fire truck pulled away.
Witnesses said the ambulance was following the fire truck, and an EMS provider alerted the firefighters in the truck.
The firefighters stopped on the highway and said they found Laurie Leone in the ambulance behind them.
Leone allegedly said the fire truck reminded her of her father, and she needed help so she stole the ambulance and followed the rig.
Leone was arrested after being cleared by EMS and charged with grand larceny of a motor vehicle.
