TULSA, Okla. — A paramedic is recovering at a hospital after stabbing himself and then claiming he was attacked, according to police.
Police said the EMSA paramedic told them he was followed into a QuickTrip gas station restroom by a stranger, according to KJRH.
The paramedic then allegedly told police the stranger slammed his head against a wall and stabbed him five to six times and made hateful remarks about first responders, according to FOX23.
However, after viewing the surveillance footage, police found the paramedic had made the story up and had stabbed himself inside the restroom.
An EMSA spokesperson said the paramedic is now on unpaid administrative leave. His wounds were superficial and did not need stitches.
“Last night, an EMSA medic told authorities he was attacked while on post at a convenience store in Tulsa. The medic was transported to the hospital by EMSA,” the spokesperson said. “Upon investigation, it has been determined the medic’s wounds were self-inflicted. The medic is currently on administrative leave pending an internal investigation. There is no further information available at this time.”
Police said the paramedic could be charged with a misdemeanor for the false police report.
