MURRIETA, Calif. — A 26-year-old woman was critically injured Tuesday evening, Nov. 13, in Murrieta when she was struck by a lifted pickup while crossing the street, authorities said.
The pedestrian, identified as Alaina Cisneros, of Murrieta, suffered major head injuries and was unconscious when police and firefighter paramedics arrived, a Murrieta Police Department news release said.
She was taken to Inland Valley Regional Medical Center in Wildomar where she underwent surgery early Wednesday, police said.
No update on her condition was available Wednesday evening.
The crash was reported about 6:30 p.m. at Jackson Avenue and Robards Way, the news release said.
The 17-year-old driver, whose name was not disclosed, said he was making a left turn from northbound Jackson to westbound Robards, police said. He told officers he saw the woman walking down Jackson but didn’t notice that she had stepped off the sidewalk into the street, said Sgt. Jay Froboese.
It appeared the boy’s attention was focused on an oncoming vehicle and he lost track of where the pedestrian was, Froboese said.
Police said several people witnessed the crash.
The driver was not injured.
Froboese said the initial investigation did not suggest drugs or alcohol played a role in the crash.
The streetlights in the area of the crash were all working properly, Froboese noted.
