NICHOLAS COUNTY, W.Va. — Police said a Nicholas County man stabbed a paramedic with scissors and then stole an ambulance Tuesday night.

Frankie William Stroup Jr., 25, of Leivasy, stabbed a Quinwood Emergency Services (paramedic) before midnight along W.Va. 20, according to a Nicholas County Sheriff’s Office news release.

Stroup then allegedly hopped in the ambulance and drove off before crashing a short time later.

Deputies arrested Stroup and charged him with malicious wounding, grand larceny and destruction of property. He was being held Wednesday in Central Regional Jail in lieu of a $20,000 bail.

The ambulance driver was taken to Summersville Memorial Hospital and later released.
