COVINGTON TWP., Pa. — Anthony Wilson could only get his upper body under the pickup truck.
The two dogs snapping at his legs continued to bite and claw him, dragging him from the protection of vehicle.
State police at Dunmore responded to 566 Clifton Beach Road at 10:15 a.m. Tuesday after receiving reports two dogs got loose from their yard and attacked Mr. Wilson, 77.
Covington Twp. police also responded to the scene, along with Covington Twp. EMS, where they found two dead dogs and Mr. Wilson with injuries to his face, torso, arms and legs.
“From what I saw, he was in pretty rough shape,” Covington Police Chief Bernie Klocko said.
A neighbor, who was not identified in a news release from state police, told police he heard Mr. Wilson calling for help and went outside to find the two dogs attacking the man.
The neighbor retrieved a gun and came back out to shoo the dogs away from Mr. Wilson, at which point the animals encircled him, prompting the neighbor to shoot the dogs, killing them, police said.
State police did not name the owner of the dogs, and it is unclear whether anyone will face charges regarding the incident. Mr. Wilson was listed in good condition at Geisinger Community Medical Center Tuesday.
