Man threatens to shoot medic for slow response

The man was arrested after complaining that the medic took too long to arrive for a call about his fallen wife, saying he would shoot him if he didn’t leave

WANATAH, Ind. — A man was arrested Monday after threatening to shoot a paramedic, saying he took too long to respond to call for his wife, who had fallen.

Walter Iliff, 68, was charged with intimidation, battery and interfering with medical services, NWI Times reports.

LaPorte County Police say paramedic Todd Martin, with the Cass-Clinton Township Fire Department, responded to the home and was trying to reach the woman who fell, but Iliff stood in his way, complaining that he took too long to get there.

Iliff used profanities and told Martin to leave or he would shoot him, police said. He then grabbed Martin’s hand and pushed him toward the door. Martin was not injured.

Iliff told police he had no firearms in the home. Police noted that he has a “lifetime physical protection permit” and works for a private security company.
