PASADENA, Md. — Emergency crews suspended their search Tuesday afternoon for a 27-year-old man who disappeared after being blown off a sailboat Monday afternoon near Gibson Island.
Coast Guard said they stopped about 2:30 p.m. after searching 155 square miles for approximately 22 hours.
Natural Resource Police said Jason Wesley Ryman of Philadelphia was sailing aboard the Phoenix with with five people described as family and friends. They were in the Six Foot Knoll area of the Chesapeake Bay when a storm started blowing strong gusts.
Ryman and Hannah Kahn, 26, also of Philadelphia, slid off of the boat and into the water. Others on the sailboat were able to reach Kahn, but were unable to reach Ryman.
The skipper contacted the Coast Guard for help shortly before 1 p.m. Monday.
