SAN FRANCISCO, Calif. — A 21-year-old man was arrested Sunday for allegedly shooting and killing an off-duty paramedic this month in San Francisco’s Mission District, police said.
Taaron Bragg of San Francisco allegedly killed Camilo Senchyna-Beltran in the early-morning hours of Dec. 7 outside a bar at 20th and Mission streets, said officer Albie Esparza, spokesman for the San Francisco Police Department.
Senchyna-Beltran was shot once in the chest and taken to San Francisco General Hospital where he died. Friends of the victim told the news website Mission Local that the shooting occurred after an altercation at Bruno’s bar. Senchyna-Beltran, a 26-year-old medic, reportedly tried to step in and break up the fight when he was killed.
Esparza said someone at the scene tried to follow the gunman but stopped when fired upon.
Officers from the city’s Bayview Station knew Bragg from an arrest on Nov. 20 when he was picked up on suspicion of burglary, Esparza said. The encounter helped officers locate Bragg this weekend, police said.
Bragg was booked in the San Francisco County Jail on suspicion of murder, attempted murder and having outstanding warrants.
