SUMMERHILL, Pa. — Family, friends and colleagues of fallen Paramedic Janice Keen-Livingston gathered over the weekend to honor her memory with a sign unveiling for a bridge renamed in her honor.
Keen-Livingston was working a crash scene for West End Ambulance in 2015 when she was struck and killed by a tri-axle truck, The Tribute-Democrat reported.
State Rep. Frank Burns authored the legislation to rename the bridge, something he has done in the past to honor fallen members of the armed forces.
“She’s the definition of a hero,” he said.
At the Summerhill Boro. Volunteer Fire Department gathering, the sign for the former Route 219 bridge was revealed to read “Janice Keen-Livingston First Responders Memorial Bridge”.
The bridge named in Keen-Livingston’s honor is one of the busiest in Cambria County, Burns said, and he hopes the sign encourages people to remember the risks members of public safety take on behalf of residents.
“It’s important people recognized their sacrifice,” he said,” [because] people can take it for granted.”
