MANCHESTER, Pa. — A veteran EMT died Christmas morning while on duty.

York Daily Record reported that Northeastern Area EMS EMT Robert Kohler was working at the station when he suffered a medical event, according to a statement from the agency.

Kohler was immediately treated by his colleagues before being transported to the hospital.

Hospital staff members worked on Kohler for three hours before he was pronounced dead.

NAEMS said in a Facebook post that Kohler began his first responder career in the fire service in 1992 before becoming an EMR, and then an EMT, in 1999.

“He celebrated his 25th year of EMS Service in 2017 and was recognized at the state level for that accomplishment,” the post said.

Kohler was also honored with the EMT of the Year award by Governor Tom Wolf earlier this year.

“EMT Kohler dedicated his life to serving his community and was known as a kind, caring, compassionate, and knowledgeable man,” the agency’s Facebook post added. “EMT Kohler will be greatly missed.”
