Texas FD chief, EMS director dies after rendering patient care

ALPINE, Texas — Michael Scudder, Alpine Volunteer Fire Department Chief and West Texas Ambulance Service EMS Director, died Sunday after suffering a cardiac emergency while administering aid, Alpine EMS said in a Facebook post.

Scudder had been experiencing chest pains and shortness of breath while helping a patient. He drove the patient to a hospital, where he told EMTs to take the patient inside. They came back to find him having a cardiac emergency. Hospital staffers tried life-saving measures to no avail.

A funeral will be held on Monday at the Alpine Volunteer Fire Department Station, News West 9 reported.

Scudder is survived by his daughter and other family members, according to his obituary.
