Woman sues La. ambulance company, sheriff for failing to avoid collision

The pregnant woman was being transported to the hospital after a car crash when the ambulance collided with a deputy’s vehicle

THIBODAUX, La. — Iniquaite Walker was being transported to the hospital after a car crash when the ambulance she was riding in became involved in another accident, with a deputy sheriff.

One year later, she is suing Lafourche Parish Sheriff’s Office and Acadian Ambulance, Houma Today reported.

In August 2014, the ambulance was transporting Walker and a child to the hospital for injuries from a previous crash. Walker was 36 weeks pregnant at the time.

The ambulance passed several vehicles near an intersection. The deputy tried to make a left turn into the right lane and hit the ambulance, reportedly causing injuries to Walker, who also suffered “extreme anxiety”, fearing for the health of her unborn child.

Police found the driver of the ambulance at fault in the incident.

Walker accuses both drivers of careless operation, inattentiveness, failure to yield and exercise reasonable care, and failure to take the necessary steps to avoid the collision.
