CAMDEN, Tenn. — If you have called 911 in Benton County in the last 30 years and an ambulance responded, Danny Hooten was probably the man who came to your rescue. Friday evening that all changed, when he became the one who needed saving.

“When something like this happens to someone who has given their entire life, dedicated to saving and touching the lives of other people. We are all just so proud,” his daughter Erica Moore said.

Friday while mowing his lawn a 60 foot tree fell on top of Hooten, crushing his spinal cord and ending his 33-year-long career as a paramedic. His family says while his body needs mending, his spirit does not. “He’s comforting us. We’re the ones who need consoling and he’s being his usual self and making us feel better,” Moore said.
