SEYMOUR, Ind. — Authorities say a 17-year-old girl died after jumping from her family’s moving van on a southern Indiana road.
The Jackson County Sheriff’s Department says Laikyn Field of rural North Vernon died Saturday at an Indianapolis hospital after she was injured earlier that day.
Sheriff’s Detective Bob Lucas tells The Tribune of Seymour that Field’s stepfather was driving the van with her mother also inside when she became upset and jumped out from the van’s rear passenger side.
Lucas says it appears Field was injured when she struck the pavement of a county road just north of Seymour.
Lucas says Field suffered severe head injuries and was flown by helicopter about 60 miles north to Indianapolis.
