KERNERSVILLE, N.C. — A Kernersville man was arrested Wednesday in connection with a fatal hit-and-run collision on West Mountain Street in Kernersville in August, authorities said.
Christopher Shane Grubbs, 40, a Guilford County paramedic, who lives on Goode Farm Road, was charged with felony hit and run and misdemeanor death by vehicle, Winston-Salem police said.
Officers found Richard Bernard Byers, 21, who lives in the 400 block of Corbin Drive, on Aug. 13 lying along the road in the 2700 block of West Mountain Street, police said. Byers suffered head injuries, and he was taken to the Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center, where he died three days later.
Police arrested Grubbs after they investigated how Byers was struck by a vehicle, police said.
Grubbs was being held Wednesday in the Forsyth County Jail with his bond set at $40,000, according to the Forsyth County Sheriff’s Office. He is scheduled to appear in court Dec. 12.
