NEWARK, N.J. — A car packed with eight children slammed into a tree early this morning, leaving two girls, 18-months old and 3 years old, and a 17-year-old boy in critical condition, police said.

The crash, which left a total of 10 people injured, came a little more than day after a nun allegedly lost control of the car she was driving and slammed into two pedestrians outside Saint Lucy’s Church on 7th Avenue, church officials said.

According to Joseph Gonnella, the head of facilities at Saint Lucy’s, the nun drove onto a plaza intended for pedestrians, slamming into the two women, who both suffered broken bones.
