DETROIT — A veteran EMT filed a lawsuit against the Detroit Fire Department after claiming her supervisors did nothing when she said she felt unsafe.

Click on Detroit reported that Kimberly Asaro said she was forced to quit after her supervisors did nothing to make her feel safe when she filed a complaint about an aggressive Facebook post by one of her colleagues.

Asaro claimed the post said, “White men, women and children should be raped and killed. White people should be used as alligator bait. Whites should be enslaved and beaten, like they had done to African-Americans.”

Asaro filed a complaint and said that her colleague, Willie Bragg, wrote that he agreed with the post “100 percent.”

The Detroit Fire Department told Bragg to stay away from Asaro, but said the post was covered under the First Amendment. Asaro said Bragg would intimidate her by showing up at her ambulance.

“I felt completely stalked and harassed at work,” Asaro said. “It got to the point where I couldn’t function at work.”

The lawsuit said comments were left on Asaro’s Facebook page, including one from a Detroit police officer asked Asaro if she should be arrested for complaining, and another one that said “hit her with a scalpel,” to which Bragg allegedly responded with a laughing emoji.

“I’m very afraid,” Asaro said. “I’m very, very aware of my surroundings at all times.”
